Jake Guentzel broke a 37-minute shot dry spell to score the winning objective in the last minutes as the Pittsburgh Penguins beat the Nashville Predators 5-3 in Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Final on Monday night.
The Penguins leapt out to a 3-0 first-period lead on objectives by Evgeni Malkin, Conor Sheary then Nick Bonino, when the puck entered off Nashvilles Mattias Ekholm. The protecting Cup champs then didnt take a crack at for precisely 37 minutes as the Predators roared back to connect ball game at 3-3.
Nashville got objectives from Ryan Ellis, Colton Sissons and Frederick Gaudreau as they controlled Pittsburgh in the 2nd duration and the majority of the 3rd. A waved-off objective by PK Subban in the very first duration on a coachs obstacle loomed big when Guentzel beat Predators goaltender Pekka Rinne with 3:17 left in the 3rd on the Penguins ninth shot. Bonino sealed it with an empty-netter.
Pittsburgh had the least shots by a winning group in a Cup Final video game with 12.
